THE HAGUE, Netherlands—The organizers of the International Monsanto Tribunal today announced the program of this unique event. Three more judges will co-chair the tribunal, bringing the total number to five.

"The Monsanto Tribunal is one of the most important initiatives of organized citizen society in the last decade," says Boaventura de Sousa Santos, sociology professor University of Coimbra and one of the ambassadors for the Tribunal.

“The recently announced Bayer – Monsanto merger will give even more momentum to the Tribunal,” said Marie-Monique Robin, patron of the Tribunal “We have a panel of five distinguished international judges, who are studying testimonies from 30 witnesses and experts from five continents. We encourage the citizens of the world to endorse the Tribunal, and invite them to register to participate.”

Joining the judges announced in July are: Eleonora Lamm, Argentina, human rights director for the Supreme Court of Justice of Mendoza University, Jorge Abraham Fernández Souza, Mexico, judge of the Court of Administrative Litigation of México City, Mexico (remove fedreal district), also guarantor in the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal, Chapter Mexico 2011-2015, and speaker at the Russell Tribunal on Repression in Latin America, Brussels 1975 and Steven Shrybman who practices public interest and international trade law in Canada.

The International Monsanto Tribunal will take place on October 15-16th in The Hague, Netherlands. A parallel People’s Assembly, starting October 14th, will feature interactive workshops, speakers and films and will provide the opportunity for social movements to rally and plan for a just and regenerative agricultural system that respects human rights and the environment. Registration is now open for both the People’s Assembly and the formal Tribunal.

The Monsanto Tribunal is an international civil society initiative to determine accountability for human rights violations, crimes against humanity, and ecocide, that are alleged to have been committed by Monsanto. Eminent judges will hear testimonies from victims, and deliver an advisory opinion following procedures of the International Court of Justice. A parallel People's Assembly provides the opportunity for social movements to rally and plan for the future we want. The Tribunal and People's Assembly will take place between 14 and 16 October 2016 in The Hague, Netherlands.
